ABOUT US

The Pacific Southwest Center of Excellence in Vector-Borne Diseases (PacVec CoE) is funded by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). MISSION

To enhance the capacity of the Southwestern United States to respond to threats from vector-borne diseases that affect human health.

GOALS

The center addresses the urgent public health challenges presented by ongoing spread of invasive vectors, exotic pathogens such as Zika virus, and several endemic pathogens transmitted by mosquitoes and ticks. PacVec investigators, along with public health and vector control partners, aim to increase the capacity of the United States to respond to vector-borne disease threats by:

APPLIED RESEARCH

Our team of collaborators conduct applied research to develop and validate effective prevention and control tools and methods to anticipate and respond to invasive mosquitoes and disease outbreaks.

TRAINING

Our center trains vector biologists, entomologists, and physicians in the knowledge and skills required to address vector-borne disease concerns.

COLLABORATION

Our center strives to strengthen and expand already effective collaborations between researchers, vector-control, and public health organizations for vector-borne disease surveillance, prevention, and response in the Pacific Southwest region of the US.
